The other day my son and I went to see, draw and SMELL the famous and rare Corpse Flower at the New York Botanical Garden in the Bronx. It was a great adventure waiting on long lines in the 90 degree weather, and squirming through crowds in the humid tropics of the conservatory. I kept […]

I was with my friends and colleagues of Studio 1482 the other day. We get together to draw the model every once in a while.  Drawing from the model is such a way to stretch your legs and explore and experiment. And if you have music and good people around you , even better! Here […]

I joined Dalvero Academy on a trip to Mystic Seaport again and this time we had the pleasure of drawing the Mayflower. Replica of course but it’s lovely none the less. Much smaller than I would have imagined. I think that was the coolest part about it- imagining being those people in that ship. crazy. […]

Recently I was commissioned for a really fun job. I was asked to do a full illustrative exploratory based on the existing Napa Cellars brand. The idea was that the new art would be used as one of a series of special artist’s labels. The project wasn’t realized in the end, but I really enjoyed working […]

A few months ago I was commissioned to work on a wine label for the Limited Edition of Nolita, an Italian wine. I was happy to spend my time drawing the bucolic scene of a hillside village in Italy with the cypress trees and terracotta rooftops of the houses that I’d so love to spend […]

I recently stumbled onto a way to waste time that I just couldn’t resist. I started to mix art apps and I quickly became addicted. I can’t say it’s fair to call it a waste if time, since experimenting with colors and ways to combine them has always been a welcomed exercise for me. I […]

These illustrations are part of a bigger project about beetles. Here I had fun imagining a hybrid of a woman and beetle.

At the New Museum in NYC for the Pawel Althamer’s “Draftmen’s Congress” exhibit with Dalvero Academy yesterday, we had a terrific time! The artist invited people to draw and paint everywhere and anywhere in the gallery space. What fun. Spontaneous drawing at it’s best. Great sense of freedom, it made us feel like kids. Above […]

Snow is not white

Snow is NOT white. Trust me I’ve seen enough snow this winter to last a lifetime. But amidst all the whining and complaining about the snow, every time I look out the window, or as I walk or drive through town, I am overwhelmed by how beautiful it is. I’ve seen lavendar snow, orange snow, […]

As promised, a drawing of what I actually saw in Aruba. My favorite sight of all was my boy playing in the sand. He used bits of coral for knights, a shell for a princess, and a dried up coconut for a dragon in the most rudimentary, lovely sand castle those two little hands could […]

Is that all? Is that all you think you’ll see in Aruba? Yes. In fact, that’s all I need to see. The horizon line. Anything more will be icing on a most lovely cake of sweet sweet relaxation!! –That’s the conversation I had with myself after I made this simple simple drawing before leaving for […]

Woke up to more snow than I was prepared for! My first thought was food. What will we eat today? Then I thought of posting a drawing. I thought it would be nice to share a frame from a storyboard I made about snow and gloves.

The poor guy’s been getting a lot of flack here in the NE coast these days. Thought I’d give him a shout out. We’ve been having a snowy winter and people are complaining. What an ungrateful, whiny bunch! Hey, myself included. I just CANNOT WAIT for the Spring, and more importantly, the Summer! If it […]

I had a great time working on this illustration for a piece in the January/February issue of the Utne Reader. It was a lovely story about two women of the same heritage, but with different views on spirituality, faith and tradition. It was full of great imagery and symbols, which I just LOVED! I’ll be […]
