greek flower

i guess i was inspired by drawing nature during my visit to central park the other day. i couldn’t make it back there yesterday, so instead i took a stroll in my back yard. nice substitute, i know.

at the beginning of summer, my mom came by the house with some seeds to plant. she ended up making flower beds in every bit of earth she could find that wasn’t grass or driveway! i am not complaining! i realize only now how drab it would’ve been out there without them.

among the seeds were a few that her friend brought back from the island kalymnos in greece. i have been there–beautiful! so all summer i had forgotten about them, and even mistook a few of them for weeds! good thing i didn’t pull them up because they bloomed into really unique flowers. i don’t know if it’s the surprise of seeing them, or maybe that i know they are from the “homeland”, but i am in love with them!

here’s my take on one of them. drawing flowers is a pretty neat way to spend a morning.
